Did you know raised beds make gardening easier and more successful? They prevent soil compaction and provide good drainage. For more information, ideas, and inspiration click here.

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”    –  Erma Bombeck

Linda’s Garden Center Tip

ladybugLucky us! Once again we are enjoying a wonderfully wet season, keeping the fire danger low….but the aphid population high. To keep the aphid population in check, get some ladybugs for your garden. Adult ladybugs eat a lot but their larvae are the more voracious eaters!
Did you ever wonder where ladybugs got their name? According to legend, during the Middle Ages, crops in Europe were plagued by pests. Farmers began praying to the Blessed Virgin whom they referred to as “Lady Mary”. Miraculously, beetles appeared on the crops and ate the pests (which were aphids). The crops were saved, and the farmers thanked Lady Mary and named the beetles “Ladybugs” after her.

It is also time to keep your annuals, perennials, and vegetables fertilized.  Sundance has organic fertilizers for all your needs. Garden Center OPEN Monday, July 4, 9-4.
