Garden Center News

To our valued Sundance customers,

As we patiently await the arrival of spring and the sprouting of another garden season at Sundance I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new garden center manager.

My name is Pam Selman. Some of you already know me and many of you will recognize me from my work at other garden centers in the Kittredge and Littleton areas. I received a degree in Horticulture from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and have worked in the industry since moving to Colorado in 1986. I have always lived in the foothills, initially in Evergreen but for the last 25 years in Conifer so I am aware of and understand the trials and tribulations of gardening in the foothills...the high altitude restrictions, the deer and elk and the cute but not so welcome creature...the vole.

Since I garden at 8300' I have a passion for container gardening using annuals, perennials, tropicals and anything chartreuse in color. My favorite perennial to use is Monkshood so if you are unfamiliar with the benefits of this wonderful plant stop by and I'll gladly share why you should give it a space or two in your garden.

In closing, I would like to acknowledge Sundance's retiring manager, Linda Zakes. She is a huge part of the Sundance legacy, a much-respected member of the Evergreen gardening community and has left me with some very big shoes to fill. I wish her happy retirement and hope her life's garden is full of many more beautiful blooms.

Happy gardening,

Pam Selman

March 2016

sundance06According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the official (meteorologic) spring season always begins on March 1.  We’ll take it!  (Although astronomically speaking the spring equinox falls on March 20 this year.)  Even with snow on the ground it does feel like spring with these high temperatures and sunny days.

Spring is a season of renewal, rebirth, and fresh starts.  Do you need a fresh start for your outdoor spaces?  Or just a little help refreshing some areas?  Whatever your needs, let us know if we may help.  It is never too early to call to get on our schedule or make an appointment for a free consultation.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Spring is a great time for wildflower seeding. This photo is of an Evergreen garden we sowed in early spring, here still going strong in August!  Contact us and we will sow at the optimal time.

We currently have a beautiful selection of Aspen trees that we can plant now. Aspens bring 4 seasons of interest and you will enjoy this year and for many years to come.

Linda’s Garden Center Tip

sundance09The Garden Center will open March 1st for what will hopefully be a spectacular growing season with just the right amount of moisture…it can happen!  Our hours are Monday – Saturday, 10am – 3pm (weather permitting).

March is a great time to begin cleaning up our gardens… in between our inevitable snowfalls. Some chores that can be done now include raking and disposing of pine needles, prepping areas for wildflower seed (and sowing them right before a snowfall), and starting vegetable seeds indoors.  Don’t forget to spray emerging spring bulbs with animal repellant.

Garden Center Special

Take advantage of our annual March sales event.  All our topsoil, compost, container mix, sheep & peat, bark, cedar mulch, and soil pep are 20% off through March 31st.  Purchase now and pick up by April 15th!

sundance10Our new spring merchandise is arriving!  Did you know there are many benefits to adding a fountain to your home and garden?

  • They add beauty and tranquility.
  • The cascading water makes a soothing sound that will relax you and your guests.
  • Fountains “finish” a landscape project.
  • The visual of flowing water is pleasing to humans and animals….you won’t believe the increase in birds to your property!
  • A flowing garden fountain will cool the surrounding area during the hot summer months.
  • Many of our smaller fountains can easily move inside to be enjoyed throughout the winter months.
  • When used indoors fountains add much needed humidity to the environment.
  • Some fountains include LED lights that liven up your evening landscape.

In addition to self contained ceramic fountains, we also have metal sculptural fountains, solar fountains,  and natural stone fountains. Our landscaping department can also design and build beautiful custom ponds and fountains that will help increase your property value.  Add an element of beauty to your home and garden.  A fountain is a work of art for your garden!
