Linda’s Garden Center Tip

April is the perfect month to fertilize many of your plants. Trees, shrubs, and perennials can all use a good drench of liquid fertilizer. Age Old Organic liquid fertilizer are gentle and not only good for the health of the plant, but also increases the microbial activity of the soil. Fox Farm also has effective, organic fertilizers.

When planting a new specimen, adding mycorrhizae to the hole increases root development dramatically and helps the plant become stronger and more drought tolerant.

Something fun to do with kids is to purchase tree/shrub fertilizer spikes.These are solid spikes that are hammered into the ground, slowly releasing essential nutrients for several months. Be sure to use the correct spike for the right plant. Some spikes are for evergreens only. Kids love hammering them into the ground, and it can be educational also.

Grass and wildflower seed can be sown now. Sundance has its own special high altitude grass seed mix and carries seven different types of wildflower mixes. They love our spring snows!!!
